Care at Clarehouse

Around-the-clock compassion is offered by staff and volunteer caregivers.

Families are welcome to stay with loved ones, with a bed and amenities provided for comfort. We work closely with local hospices and hospitals in the referral and admission process and coordinate ongoing care with your hospice provider.

Services We Provide

  • Personal care such as bathing, dressing, toileting, assistance with transfers and repositioning and assistance with eating and medications
  • Meal preparation, laundry and housekeeping
  • Comfort care and symptom management
  • Teaching about disease progression and the dying process
  • Collaboration with your medical hospice provider

Our focus is helping you live as fully as possible, according to your personal preferences, goals and values.

We are unable to provide skilled nursing care or treatments such as:

  • Tube feedings
  • IV, IM and SQ medications or infusions
  • Complicated wound management
  • Blood sugar management
  • Tracheostomy care
  • Acute or in-patient level of care

In addition, we are limited in our ability to provide care for people who weigh over 250 pounds.

What We Provide

Supportive Care

Through staff and volunteers, we offer a variety of nurturing support services to relieve pain, stress, anxiety and isolation.

Guest Companion

Volunteers are available for direct support during a person’s final hours. These volunteers are trained in the art of the vigil—being present with people who are dying and their loved ones. They offer emotional and spiritual support, comfort measures and create a calming presence. The Guest Companion embodies our philosophy that no one need die alone. The vigil is available during the last 24 – 48 hours of life.

Spiritual Support

At Clarehouse, we acknowledge that dying is a spiritual experience, though not necessarily religious. Our goal is to support each individual’s spiritual journey, whatever that may be. Spiritual support is available at all times upon request. Individual and family support is given by hospice chaplains, leaders of guests’ and families’ faith groups and local ministers.

Pet Therapy

Through volunteers, dogs, cats and other pets visit our home to offer unconditional love, warmth and furry fun. Guests and families can interact with the animals in the living areas, bedrooms, patios and decks.

Clarehouse Labyrinth

A labyrinth is a walking path with one route that leads into the center point and back out again. There is no way to get lost and no wrong way to walk a labyrinth. This personal journey of meditation and prayer can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, reduce depression and induce feelings of well-being. The labyrinth is open to Clarehouse guests and families daily from dawn to dusk.
